Yes.. First, big SIM cards were coming in mobile phones, then those big SIMs changed into small SIMs. After that came micro sims too. Now look at the new e-Sim (e-Sim). Have you ever heard about this e-SIM? How does it work? How much does it cost in India? Which smartphones does it support? See the information here.Jio, Airtel,VI (Vodafone Idea) to introduce e-SIM Limited to expensive smartphones only
E-SIM technology has been around for quite some time, but many are still unaware of its existence. .This is because not all smartphones support this connectivity option and it is said to be an expensive technology to add as it involves creating a dedicated space directly on the motherboard. But Apple is one of the brands that offers this option in most of its smartphones. Samsung and Motorola also do this, but it’s limited to their most expensive smartphones. Google is also said to offer e-SIM support.
But at present only one question can be said to remain. That is how electronic SIM technology works. Which smartphones does it support in India and how much does it cost? In today’s article we can know all that.
Let us first know what this e-SIM technology is. You may wonder if this is an e-SIM or an electronic SIM. But you can say that your assumption is wrong. E-SIM is originally called Embedded SIM. This is because the e-SIM technology is embedded or soldered on the motherboard of the mobile phone.
This option is also supported for smartwatches and drones, as it eliminates the hassle of creating and putting an extra SIM card slot in such a device.
More simply put, this embedded or digital SIM allows users to activate a cellular plan from their carrier without using a physical nano-SIM. Bharti Airtel, Jio and VI (Vodafone Idea)are the only telecom companies in India to offer e-SIM support on Android and iOS smartphones.

Phones that are compatible with this
As mentioned earlier, most iPhones support the e-SIM option. E-SIM is supported on iPhone 6 and above. Samsung phones that support this option include the Galaxy S20 series, S21 series, all Z-fold smartphones and Z-Flip devices. This includes other Android smartphones, the Motorola Razr and the Google Pixel 2 and above.
But the biggest challenge here is that smartphones should be compatible with this technology. We have already seen which phones support e-SIM.
How to activate e-SIM?
The process of activating e-SIM is as simple as we can imagine, but it can be said that it varies from operator to operator. Telcos do not charge separately for e-SIM and your regular plan is forwarded on the same number. Besides, Airtel and Jio support e-SIM in prepaid and postpaid plans. VI(Vodafone Idea) offers only e-SIM option in postpaid plans.
Airtel: SMS e-SIM registered e-mail ID to 121.
VI: SMS e-SIM registered e-mail ID to 199.
Jio: SMS ‘GETESIM’ to 199 by writing Getesim.
Users can see the IMEI and EID numbers in the Settings app. Following this, the user will get an SMS from each carrier and follow the steps. Finally, the user will get a QR code on the registered e-mail ID, which needs to be scanned. Also, remember to do this to ensure that the e-mail ID is correct. By downloading Airtel Thanks app, V app and My Jio app you can check e-mail id or update there as well.
This scanning process varies from one smartphone to another.
Samsung: Go to “Settings” and select “Connections”. Then click on “SIM Card Manager”. Click on “Add Mobile Plan” and click on “Add Using QR Code”.
Apple: First go to “Settings”, select “Mobile Data”. There click on “Add Data Plan”.
Pixel: Click on “Settings” then select “Network and Internet”. Then click on the option called “Mobile Network”. Click on “Download SIM instead”. Click “Next”. Scan the QR code received via e-mail.
Advantages and disadvantages of e-SIM
There is no guarantee that an e-SIM will provide better connectivity than all other SIMs, but it will save you the hassle of going to stores to get a new SIM card.
